Moving forward after Trauma

Developing Resilience to Build New Paths

Developing Resilience to Build New Paths

My first step is turning these negative events into a positive purpose.

Being able to tell my story and connect with others who have experienced being attacked by another dog.

I have a voice and it is my purpose to educate dog owners on the importance of “responsibility”.

Resilience is being able to bounce back after an event. It’s about finding ways to grow stronger.

I am finding a purpose and believing in myself that I can build a network to embrace this change.

I have been attacked by another dog two times in my life. When you are resilient you can recover from the trauma while still being calm and in control during this process.

I am moving forward in my path by telling my story.

I am finding my purpose by using my past hurtful experiences to help in healing myself and others.  Sometimes bad things happen to good people and good things happen to bad people.  That’s life, but it is important to find something in your life that motivates you.  For me that has always been about helping people and animals.    When you make a difference in one person’s life it will inspire you to keep trying.

These following 4 C’s have been the key elements to building resilience and moving forward in my new paths to create change and help save lives.

  • Calm: When I start to feel anxiety that I can’t breathe and feel I will never be safe outside again, I take a few deep breaths, get moving (physical exercise is a great stress reliever), eat healthy and let go of the negative and anxious feelings.
  • Coping: Finding ways to refocus my mind. Spending time with my family and pets. Reading is my “go to” coping skill. It is the one thing I do every night before going to bed to take my mind away from everything. Music is also another key factor to help me cope.
  • Control: I cannot worry about the things I cannot control but I can control how I respond to what is happening in my life.  This is my true power, and it can change everything.
  • Confidence: Caring & Connection are key elements to inspire confidence. Confidence comes from within us. Having the power to move forward will help build your confidence.

My resilience continues each day as I move forward on my path to overcome the adversities and adjust.

Every day I must believe in myself and find the courage to help make this change to help build my new path.

This is my journey: I believe this is the path I am supposed to be on. Sometimes until you are faced with challenges that is when you discover what your true purpose is in life.
